We are currently advertising for several freelance, fixed term roles.

Session and Events Lead

- 10 hours a week minimum, to start February 2025, £155/week minimum based on variable costs according to tasks

As Skate Nottingham’s Session and Events Lead, you will be responsible for: leading and delivering coached skateboarding sessions and events; planning those events, including co-ordination of volunteer/sessional coaches for each date; participant data collection at the start of each event and recording the data afterwards; collating and summarising this data for evaluation at the end of each funded programme.

Key tasks:

  • Booking sessional coaches for each event date from our pool of regular freelancers

  • Supporting volunteers to work with sessionally-paid coaches

  • Planning and delivery of skate coaching sessions and events, including planning Edu-Skate life skills programme elements where this is scheduled

  • Capturing participant data at events (participant registration and attendance records)

  • Data entry & reporting back headline figures to the rest of team

  • Session evaluation that enables continuous improvement of session planning and delivery

  • Managing relationships with existing or new clients and funders

  • Maintaining a safe environment and prioritising child safety, including working with Skate Nottingham team members to confirm a risk assessment for each event and to communicate the key messages to the coaching team, and to be aware of the Skate Nottingham child safeguarding policy and our approach to referring or recording incidents and disclosures

Longer term goals for this role would include assisting to develop and codify a bespoke learning offer for Skate Nottingham.

Required skills:

  • Experience of planning and delivering events of any kind

  • Confidence to run a busy learning session and lead a small coaching team, delegating tasks where needed

  • Demonstrable organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Experience of working with children and young people

  • A good understanding of handling data and familiarity with MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word

  • An active involvement and proven interest in skateboarding

Desirable experience:

  • Enhanced DBS certificate (within the last 3 years)

  • Completion of an introduction to child safeguarding course or other safeguarding experience

  • Skateboard coaching experience or training (such as the Skateboard GB Level 1 Award in Coaching Skateboard Sessions/Get Rolling Award or higher-level Coaching Skills Award)

This contract is being advertised on a freelance basis, with payments made monthly, based on hours/sessions delivered each month. This contract covers a 3-month period. You will be responsible for providing your own equipment (skateboard, PC/Mac etc.), transport, and also recording all income and expenses in order to complete self-assessment (PAYE) for HMRC, if required.

Grants Development Consultant

- 7.5 hours a week, to start December 2024 for a period of 3 months, £15/hour

As Skate Nottingham’s grants officer, you will be responsible for identifying and applying for funding that meets Skate Nottingham’s aims and objectives for project delivery and self-sustainability. These may include frequent applications to small grants in the £2,000 - £20,000 range, such as the Local Communities Fund (LCF) from Nottinghamshire County Council or the National Lottery’s Awards for All, as well as more long-term work contributing to submissions to larger funding programmes, such as multi-year programmes like National Lottery Partnerships or Reaching Communities. You will be responsible for ensuring sufficient grant applications are in-place to meet Skate Nottingham’s current delivery costs and community objectives whilst working with the CIC Directors to identify opportunities to expand and sustain our activities longer-term.

We understand that the post-holder cannot guarantee a given success rate in a highly challenging funding environment, so the expectation will be to submit 6-8 small or medium-sized grant applications over the period of this freelance contract whilst contributing substantively to at least 2 larger scale and/or multi-year funding submissions.

Key tasks:

  • Weekly grant searches and checks for eligibility and deadlines, entering these to a grant tracker visible to the rest of the team

  • Presenting viable grant opportunities to the rest of team for feedback on approaches and objectives

  • Completing grant applications, liaising with team for relevant supporting data and signing off with CIC directors prior to submission

  • Liaising with partners for grants which will involve collaboration

  • Maintaining a well-organised shared folder with filed grant applications and relevant documents, including final copies of all applications and a record of any grants awarded (contracts, SLAs etc.) to ensure Skate Nottingham team members are fully aware of delivery commitments and evaluation/monitoring obligations, deadlines etc.

Required skills:

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Good numerical skills, including the ability to accurately cost delivery and forecast costs over time

  • Confidence in dealing with stakeholders, partners, and presenting to Skate Nottingham team

  • Demonstrable organisational skills & attention to detail

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, especially Excel and Word, and familiarity with online (web-based) application portals

Desirable experience:

  • Proven experience in successful grant writing, including charitable, sports or arts funding and/or research/academic funding experience

  • Ability to present project proposals verbally, including in a formal presentation (which may include Powerpoint) in the event of being invited to be part of an in-person awards panel

Sessional Skateboard Coach

- 4 hours a month minimum, to start February 2025, £12.50/hour

As a Skate Nottingham skateboard coach, you will deliver coaching to participants of our sessions and events around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire skateparks & other venues, led by our Session and Events Lead. Participants will often be aged between 7 and 15-years-old, but may also include adult learners. The ability to work responsibly and appropriately with children and young people is therefore key. While full coaching training will be given, you will already be a confident skateboarder, able to coach both absolute beginners and those at an intermediate level of skateboarding. As part of this contract, you will commit to coach at least two events (usually 2 hours but can be up to 5 hours) each month, with many more available to you.

Required skills:

  • Experience working with children & young people

  • Good at taking instruction and managing own tasks

  • Punctual and reliable, with good time-keeping skills

  • An active involvement in UK skateboarding

Desirable experience:

  • Previous DBS check or other child safeguarding qualification

  • Skateboard coaching experience

  • Skateboard coaching experience or training (such as the Skateboard GB Level 1 Award in Coaching Skateboard Sessions/Get Rolling Award)

You will report to: Session and Events Lead, and Creative Programmes Director.
