Skate Nottingham poster design contest

Feature in an exhibition / Top prize of £150

How would you promote Nottingham as an internationally known skate city?

One of Skate Nottingham’s key missions is to improve our city and share its incredible skate culture with the world. Over the past few years, Nottingham has really begun to stand out as a leading skate-friendly city, an international destination akin to the likes of Malmö, Bordeaux, and Barcelona that attracts people to want to visit, skate, study, work & live here.

In thinking about our aims, we realise that ‘Skate Nottingham’ is not just our organisation name, it’s a call to action - an invite, to come to our city and experience our scene.

We’re opening submissions for you to design a poster that invites the world to come and skate Nottingham.

Will you take inspiration from classic tourism posters? From your favourite skate brand aesthetic? Or create a unique piece of art in your own style? From all submissions, we will curate an exhibition to celebrate Nottingham and share all the different creative talent that gets involved. Entry to the contest is free, and multiple entries are welcomed. Submissions are welcome from anywhere in the world. Get creative!

Send your entries to: contact@skatenottingham.co.uk with the subject heading ‘Poster contest entry’. Deadline: 5th May 2024. Feel free to use WeTransfer, Dropbox or similar if your file is large. Files should ideally be JPG, TIF, PSD, PDF or similar.

  • Posters can be designed digitally or by hand. They should be a minimum of A3 in size. (297 x 420mm). Use anything from pixels, pens, paint, charcoal, collage - whatever your preference!

  • If designing digitally using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, your document should be set up at the appropriate size at a minimum of 300dpi, so that it can be printed for display. A 3mm bleed would be beneficial if you want to avoid a white border when printing. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what this is.

  • If your poster is done by hand, we will need a hi-res scan suitable for reprinting - A3, 300dpi. If you are selected for inclusion in the exhibition, and are able to get your physical poster to us in Nottingham, we may wish to exhibit the original. (If you are struggling with access to a scanner, at least submit a photograph of your piece and we’ll take it from there.)

  • Our suggestion would be to feature ‘Nottingham’ or ‘Skate Nottingham’ text in your design - but how you interpret the brief is entirely up to you.

  • Your poster design should be family-friendly if you hope to feature in a public exhibition. No nudity, drugs references or similar, please.

  • Skate Nottingham reserves the right to share any posters submitted on our website or social media channels. We look forward to sharing our favourite entries - don’t forget to include your social media handles so we can credit you! Your work remains your own and will not be used anywhere else without permission.

  • Posters submitted must be your own work. Kind of an obvious one, that.
